Jungfrudansen - Nagu

The route leads you by the sea to a stone turf-maze, "Maiden dance" (in Swedish Jungfrudans) on the outskirts of the village.
You can find turf-mazes throughout Europe, in Finland these are made of stone and mainly found on the coast. No one knows there purpose for certain, there are many theories. Were they built by bored fishermen, or as a way of placating weather gods?
Other sources say they were used as pilgrimage rites for those who didn’t have the means to travel. Others say they were used in fertility rites or as a way of marking land boundaries. The Jungfrudans is also used in games.

The ascent through the forest to the maiden dance is relatively difficult and hilly, along a narrow forest path, both in the forest and on the cliffs. You can opt out of the maiden dance and instead follow Finnäsvägen on to the vicarage and the football field. On this route you can move, for example, with a stroller.
